Each tile passes through several pairs of hands. One person prepares the clay, another draws the pattern, and someone else controls the kiln whose heat can reward or undo days of work.
The colour is immediately recognisable, but no two pieces are identical. Minute variations in line and glaze are evidence of the people who made them.
